Explore the majestic landscapes, imperial cities, the vast desert, and Morocco’s stunning coastline with our 10 Days North Tour to Imperial Cities, Desert & Coast from Tangier. This journey promises a rich immersion into Morocco’s diverse culture, history, and natural wonders. From bustling medinas to the serenity of the Sahara, experience the true essence of Morocco with us.
Your Moroccan adventure begins in Tangier, a city rich in history and culture. Located on the edge of the Mediterranean, Tangier offers a unique blend of European and Moroccan influences. Upon arrival, you will be transferred to your hotel, where you can relax before the tour starts. Depending on your arrival time, you may have the opportunity to explore the Tangier Medina or enjoy a walk along the city’s beautiful coastline.
On the second day, we leave Tangier and head to the breathtaking Chefchaouen, known for its iconic blue-painted streets and buildings. Nestled in the Rif Mountains, Chefchaouen is a photographer’s paradise and a haven of tranquility. After checking into your hotel, take time to explore the charming medina, the Kasbah, and its surrounding gardens. The evening will be spent at your leisure, enjoying the local atmosphere and Moroccan cuisine.
From Chefchaouen, we journey to Volubilis, the ancient Roman city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walk through the well-preserved ruins, with impressive mosaics, temples, and columns that date back over 2,000 years. Afterward, we continue to the imperial city of Meknes, where you’ll explore Bab Mansour, one of Morocco’s most impressive gates, and the Royal Stables. The city’s laid-back vibe offers a pleasant contrast to the busier parts of Morocco.
On day four, we leave Meknes for the vibrant city of Fez, Morocco’s spiritual and intellectual capital. After checking into your hotel, you’ll begin exploring the Fez el-Bali Medina, a labyrinth of narrow streets filled with mosques, madrasas, and bustling souks. The Al-Qarawiyyin University, the world’s oldest university, is a must-see, as well as the stunning Bou Inania Madrasa. Fez’s medina is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the largest car-free urban area in the world, allowing for an immersive experience in Morocco’s ancient culture.
Spend the day discovering more of Fez’s rich history and culture. We’ll start by visiting the Chouara Tannery, where you can observe traditional leather tanning methods from centuries ago. Visit the Royal Palace and the historic Jewish Quarter (Mellah). Fez is also known for its artisanal craftsmanship, so take the opportunity to explore the souks, where intricate pottery, carpets, and metalwork are created. Enjoy the evening in a traditional Moroccan restaurant, where you can sample the local cuisine.
We leave Fez and begin our journey toward the Sahara Desert, passing through the scenic town of Midelt, situated in the high plains between the Middle Atlas and High Atlas Mountains. Along the way, enjoy views of lush cedar forests and picturesque Berber villages. Upon arriving in Merzouga, we’ll switch to camels for a trek into the Erg Chebbi dunes, where you can watch the sun set over the vast desert. Tonight, you’ll stay in a traditional desert camp under a canopy of stars, enjoying Berber music and a Moroccan dinner.
After watching the desert sunrise, we head to the spectacular Todra Gorges, where towering cliffs create a dramatic landscape. You’ll have the opportunity to explore the gorge and take in its breathtaking views. Next, we continue to Ouarzazate, the gateway to the Sahara and known as the “Hollywood of Morocco” for its film studios and proximity to iconic filming locations. Visit the Kasbah Taourirt and take in the history of this fortified palace before settling in for the night.
On the eighth day, we visit the world-famous Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most well-preserved ksars in Morocco. This fortified village has been featured in countless films, from Gladiator to Game of Thrones. After exploring Ait Benhaddou, we make our way to the Atlantic coast and the enchanting city of Essaouira. With its laid-back atmosphere, sandy beaches, and vibrant arts scene, Essaouira is the perfect place to unwind. You’ll have time to wander through the medina and relax by the sea.
Enjoy a full day exploring the coastal town of Essaouira, known for its 18th-century fortress walls, lively port, and whitewashed houses with blue shutters. Essaouira has a unique bohemian charm, attracting artists and musicians from around the world. Stroll through the souks, visit the port to watch fishermen bring in the day’s catch, and perhaps try some fresh seafood at one of the local restaurants. The city’s beach is also perfect for a leisurely walk or, if you’re feeling adventurous, windsurfing.
Our final day takes us from Essaouira to the bustling city of Marrakech. En route, we pass through the Argan oil region, where you can see how this prized oil is made by hand. Upon arriving in Marrakech, we’ll explore the city’s highlights, including the iconic Jemaa el-Fnaa square, where acrobats, musicians, and food vendors create a lively atmosphere. Visit the Koutoubia Mosque, the Bahia Palace, and the vibrant souks of Marrakech. Your tour concludes in the evening, and you’ll have time to reflect on the incredible experiences of the past ten days.
